Prepping for Class

Does each person cook everything start to finish?

Our class sizes are small to offer the most individualized attention and hands-on opportunities. Students will generally work in small groups in class and everyone will contribute to a shared meal. 

What should I wear to cooking classes?

You should dress casually and comfortable. For hands-on classes, comfortable clothing and kitchen-style shoes (closed toe shoes) are recommended.  We will provide you with an apron to wear during the class.  Dangling or excessive jewelry as well as loose hanging clothing is not recommended.

Registration, Pricing, and Cancellations

How do I cancel a class?

To cancel a class please call Salt Lake Culinary Center at (801) 464-0113. Please make sure to review our cancellation/refund policy prior to calling.

What is the cancellation / refund policy?

If you have to cancel a class 7 or more days prior to the class date, a refund will be issued, less a 10% fee.  An exchange will be made for any class up to 2 days before the class date.  

No refunds, returns, or exchanges will be given for cancellations made less than 2 days (48 hours) prior to the class date.  No communication or no shows will not be eligible for class credit or future class transfer.

If you have to cancel a Junior Chef or Teen Chef summer camp 4 or more weeks before the camp begins, a refund will be issued, less a $50 fee. If a camp reservation is cancelled within 4 weeks of the camp date, a store credit will be issued or the student can be moved to another camp pending availability.

 

For the series courses (e.g. Culinary Master Class series) what happens if I miss a class?

Since the learning continues and the group dynamic grows with each class we encourage you to sign up for classes when you know you can complete the entire series. No makeup classes or credits will be issued for missed classes.

What if inclement weather is threatened and I have a cooking class to attend?

We will make a determination no later than 2 hours prior to a class and in the event of a cancellation of a class due to inclement weather, we will make every attempt to notify you by phone or email using the information you provided to us upon registration. We encourage you to check your email.  If we do choose to notify everyone via phone and we are not able to speak with you in person, we will leave a message.  We will assume that you listen to your phone messages on a regular basis.  We encourage you to call us if you are in doubt. Unless you hear from us either via email or phone based on the information provided to us at registration, the class will be held. We will make every effort to reschedule the class within a two week period.  If, however, you cannot attend the rescheduled class, we will issue Store Credit for the entire class amount that can be used for any future class.

What happens if my class is cancelled?

There are a minimum number of students required in order for a class to occur.  We reserve the right to cancel a class for any reason, at any time, in which case you will receive a full refund.

Do you have a waiting list for sold out classes?

Yes, waiting lists are maintained for sold out classes.  Please call the school to have your name added to the waiting list.  You will be notified if a space becomes available.

Are Date Night prices for each person or per couple?

Date Night classes are per-person unless otherwise noted. 

What methods of payment do you accept?

Our online system allows us to accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

Is it safe to use my credit card on-line?

Online payment via credit card is secure, fast, easy and will guarantee that your registration is processed immediately.

Do you offer any discount if I sign up for multiple classes?

At this time, we do not offer any discounts for multiple class registrations.

How much does it cost to take your classes?

The price of each class is listed in the class description.  Prices and length of class varies for each class.

Do I have to register in advance or can I just show up?

All classes require advanced registration. This is to ensure that we have enough equipment and ingredients for everyone.

Gift Certificates

We offer gift certificates for a variety of occasions.

  • The lucky recipient gets to choose the class(es) of their choice
  • Available in any denomination
  • Customize with a personal message
  • May be used for cooking classes listed in our schedule of classes calendar on the website
  • We will be happy to send your gift certificate via email or regular mail (anywhere in the continental US) at no charge
  • Valid for 1 year from the date of issue
  • Gift certificates are not refundable.

Purchase for everyone on your gift list at the same time. Just let us know when you’d like them sent and we’ll make sure they arrive on time!

Charitable Donations

Salt Lake Culinary Center is pleased to be an active and supportive member of our great community. We would love to be able to grant all donations requests that come our way, however we need to be mindful of the budget we can spend. We are happy to consider your donation request if it meets the following criteria:

  • We support organizations that are local (based in Utah) and are food related—nutrition, healthy eating, life skills, sustainable agriculture, locally sourced/produced, education, etc). If your organization qualifies please proceed with a donation request.
  • Donation requests must be made in writing.
  • Include a cover letter stating the exact request and why, be sure to include promotional or other considerations Salt Lake Culinary Center would receive.
  • We’re sorry but verbal requests and requests via social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc) for donations will not be considered. Please allow 2 weeks for us to review your request.
