Mattson McFarland

Mattson McFarland

Mattson been working as a private chef for four years, the last two full time. He learned the ropes under David Berkowitz and Adam Kreisel. He now works primarily with private clients in Park City but also works at the resorts, joining the preferred vendors list of Montage Deer Valley last year. He has cooked for celebrities, professional athletes, politicians, weddings, memorials and most of all, families. In the last year, he has cooked for Dr. Oz, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Werner Herzog and Hillary Clinton, amongst others. He also works as a culinary consultant to the Industrial Design department of BYU.
Mattson is self taught as a chef. He was the little boy sitting on the counter with his mom as she cooked dinner. He considers himself fortunate to be raised by a mother who loves food as much as he does. Today, his mom is his sous chef of choice.
He is very passionate about food and talking about food. He truly believe the stories carried in our food have the power to change the world. Mattson actively study the foodways and cuisines of the world and cook fluently from many of them. He is active in seed saving, gardening, permaculture and seed-to-table eating. He says, “By knowing the plants our food comes from, by knowing the origins of our food and respectfully bringing them to the table, we can make each meal a sacrament of community with the earth. There are few things as powerfully transformative as sitting down to a meal together. I am in love with the idea of family dinner. I believe in the power of food!”
